Ambassador Confirms Islamabad Engaging Moscow for Dialogue
Pakistan’s ambassador to Russia has confirmed that Islamabad has approached Moscow to help mediate ongoing tensions with Afghanistan, according to media reports.
Pakistan Seeks Russia Mediation in Afghanistan Tensions
Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Pakistan’s envoy in Moscow, told the Russian newspaper Izvestia that Pakistan is in contact with Russian authorities and has welcomed what he described as an “extraordinary offer” to assist in resolving the situation. He added that diplomatic proposals from multiple countries, including Russia, China, Qatar, Türkiye, and Saudi Arabia, contributed to an agreement on a temporary ceasefire.
The development follows an announcement by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and Pakistan’s military authorities on the night of Eid al-Fitr, stating that military operations would be temporarily suspended during the holiday period. The pause came after requests from regional countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
Responding to a question on whether Pakistan had formally approached Moscow, Tirmizi confirmed that engagement had already taken place, reiterating Islamabad’s appreciation for Russia’s role in facilitating dialogue.
Separately, Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Force, visited the Kurram region to spend Eid with troops deployed at forward posts, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations.
During the visit, the Field Marshal offered Eid prayers alongside soldiers and prayed for the country’s stability and prosperity. He also extended Eid greetings to officers and personnel, commending their dedication, morale, and professionalism in carrying out their duties.

The army chief praised the performance of troops involved in Operation Ghazab Lil-Haq, describing it as a key effort aimed at dismantling militant networks and maintaining peace in border areas.
Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Regional Peace and Stability
He emphasized that militant elements operating from across the Afghan border would not be allowed to threaten Pakistan’s security. Reaffirming the country’s position, he stated that Afghan territory should not be used by hostile groups for activities against Pakistan.
The ISPR statement noted that the army chief acknowledged the sacrifices made by security personnel and attributed operational successes to the commitment and resilience of officers and soldiers, as well as the sacrifices of those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Eid Ceasefire Agreed Following Regional Diplomatic Efforts
He expressed pride in the armed forces and reiterated their commitment to defending Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The developments highlight ongoing diplomatic and military efforts aimed at stabilizing the border situation, as regional actors continue to push for dialogue and de-escalation.
