Bangladesh’s Demands Accepted After ICC Talks, PCB Chairman Says
ISLAMABAD — Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has said that Pakistan’s engagement with the International Cricket Council (ICC) was solely aimed at ensuring fair and respectful treatment for Bangladesh, stressing that Pakistan had no personal or political agenda in the negotiations.
Speaking about the talks with the ICC, Naqvi said Pakistan placed no conditions other than seeking justice for Bangladesh. “Our only objective was to ensure respect for Bangladesh. We had no personal interests,” he said.
The PCB chairman said the intention behind the move was to highlight what he described as unfair treatment of Bangladesh, adding that all demands raised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) were accepted following the discussions.
The remarks follow high-level negotiations held in Lahore two days earlier involving the ICC, PCB, and BCB, amid reports of a potential boycott of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup match against India. The talks were held between ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khawaja and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, with BCB President Aminul Islam also present.
Subsequently, the ICC released details of the negotiations, stating that Bangladesh would not face any financial penalty for non-participation in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The ICC also announced that Bangladesh would be awarded hosting rights for a future ICC event.
According to the ICC, the Bangladesh Cricket Board will host an ICC tournament between 2028 and 2031.
Following these developments, the Sri Lankan president and the Bangladesh Cricket Board requested Pakistan to proceed with its match against India. The Pakistani government later granted approval for the national cricket team to play against India.
