Danish ambassador Ms. Maja Mortensen meets Dr Musadik Malik to discuss climate cooperation
ISLAMABAD: The Ambassador of Denmark to Pakistan, Ms. Maja Mortensen, called on Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik at his office on Monday, marking a key discussion on bilateral cooperation in climate action and science diplomacy.
During the meeting, both sides engaged in an in-depth exchange on the evolving dimensions of science diplomacy against the backdrop of the current global political landscape. Dr. Musadik Malik highlighted the disproportionate burden of climate change faced by countries of the Global South, noting that nearly 70 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions are produced by just ten countries, which also receive roughly 85 percent of global green financing.
The Federal Minister praised the Nordic countries for their strong social welfare systems and progressive environmental values. The discussions also included an exchange of perspectives on global political developments and their implications for climate action and international cooperation.
Dr. Musadik Malik briefed the Ambassador on Pakistan’s plans to establish a Green University aimed at fostering joint research initiatives, student and faculty exchange programmes, and collaboration with leading universities worldwide.
Both the Ambassador and the Minister reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and enhancing collaboration in climate action and science diplomacy.
