Debate Intensifies Over Alleged Crackdown on Minorities in India

A renewed debate has emerged in India over allegations of systematic repression and discriminatory policies targeting Muslims and other minority communities.

Prominent Indian actor and filmmaker Prakash Raj has strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), claiming that state institutions are increasingly operating under a Hindutva-driven agenda.

According to Raj, Muslims, tribal communities, and other minorities are facing actions carried out under a coordinated plan that is deepening social divisions across the country. He argued that India is no longer witnessing delays in justice but a denial of justice, adding that ordinary citizens increasingly fear the police and state institutions.

Raj further said that unlawful and heavy-handed practices have widened the gap between law enforcement and the public, describing the RSS as a major threat to India’s social fabric.

He also pointed to the presence of Prime Minister Modi at the Ram Temple inauguration as a clear example of what he described as the close alignment between the BJP and the RSS.

Political analysts and experts note that the BJP and RSS have faced growing accusations of weakening democratic norms and pushing constitutional changes. Since Modi came to power, concerns over the state of Indian democracy and the protection of minority rights have continued to intensify.
