Diplomatic Efforts Highlighted Amid Regional Escalation

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting of leaders and representatives of parliamentary parties at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad on March 4, 2026.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office Media Wing, the session formally commenced with participation from senior political leadership and members of parliament. The meeting was convened to take parliamentary leaders into confidence regarding the evolving situation between Pakistan and Afghanistan, as well as escalating tensions in the broader Middle East and Gulf region.

Briefing on Regional Security and Diplomacy

The prime minister is expected to brief participants on developments related to the Pakistan-Afghanistan situation and recent regional tensions, particularly in the Middle East and Gulf.

Parliamentary leaders will also receive a detailed briefing during the session. Officials are set to outline the security landscape and provide updates on diplomatic engagements undertaken by Pakistan amid the recent escalation.

The meeting will further highlight Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts during the current period of heightened tensions, underscoring initiatives aimed at promoting stability and dialogue in the region.

Senior Parliamentary Figures in Attendance

The session is being attended by Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gilani, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Chairman Senate Syedal Khan, and Deputy Speaker National Assembly Ghulam Mustafa Shah.

Also present are Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Other participants include Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Attaullah Tarar, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, and Adviser to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah.

Political Leaders and Lawmakers Participate

The meeting is also being attended by Abdul Aleem Khan of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party, Khalid Hussain Magsi of the Balochistan Awami Party, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Syed Mustafa Kamal of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan, and Chaudhry Salik Hussain of the Pakistan Muslim League (Q).

Senators Sherry Rehman, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, Manzoor Ahmed Kakar, Pervez Rashid, Hafiz Abdul Karim, and Faisal Sabzwari are also present.

Members of the National Assembly including Naveed Qamar, Farooq Sattar, Aminul Haque, and Pauline Baloch of the National Party are participating in the session.

The meeting reflects a broad-based parliamentary engagement on key regional developments and Pakistan’s diplomatic posture amid ongoing tensions.
