Diriyah Palace Revives First Saudi State Legacy Through Immersive History
RIYADH: At the historic Prince Turki bin Saud Palace in Diriyah, the past is being brought vividly into the present as immersive experiences retell stories of courage, patience and resilience from the era of the First Saudi State.
The palace is one of the main landmarks featured in the “Hal Al-Qusoor” program, a flagship initiative of Diriyah Season 25/26, attracting visitors interested in the cultural and social foundations of early Saudi history.
Prince Turki bin Saud was born in the At-Turaif District of historic Diriyah in the late 12th century AH. He grew up in an environment shaped by leadership, horsemanship and bravery under the influence of his father, Imam Saud bin Abdulaziz, who commanded the armies of the First Saudi State.
Located in the southern part of At-Turaif, the palace was constructed in the early 13th century AH and reflects traditional Najdi architectural design. Built from mud bricks, stone and tamarisk wood, the structure consists of two floors centered around an open courtyard.
Its wide gates and multiple exits reflect both architectural customs and the practical realities of life at the time. As visitors move through the palace, they can imagine the discussions and decisions once made within its walls that contributed to Diriyah’s resilience.
Today, sound and lighting technologies enhance the visitor experience, bringing historical narratives to life in an engaging and accessible way. From private living areas to reception and meeting halls, the palace offers a detailed picture of daily life during the First Saudi State.
Diriyah Season 25/26 supports the vision of the Diriyah Gate Development Authority by reinforcing Diriyah’s status as the birthplace of the Saudi State and a center of national heritage.
