Education Assistance Exceeds Rs2 Billion Under Bait-ul-Mal Programme

Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Syed Imran Ahmad Shah said more than 75,000 students have received educational support under Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal’s Individual Financial Assistance (Education) Programme since 2004, with total expenditures exceeding two billion rupees.

Talking to the media during his visit to the National University of Modern Languages in Islamabad, the minister discussed the disbursement process, transparency, and effectiveness of scholarships being provided under the programme.

He said that from July 2024 to June 2025, financial assistance of over 290 million rupees was provided to 8,059 students, while more than 200 million rupees was disbursed among 5,519 students from July 2025 to February 2026.

The minister added that the annual ceiling for educational assistance has been increased from 100,000 rupees to 150,000 rupees per student, allowing deserving students to continue their education without financial constraints.

Sharing institution-specific data, he said that between 2008 and 2026, a total of 6,739 students at NUML Islamabad received educational assistance amounting to approximately 240 million rupees through Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal.

Syed Imran Ahmad Shah further stated that during the current financial year 2025–26, 171 students have so far been provided financial assistance worth around nine million rupees, reflecting the continued support process.

He also highlighted that under Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal’s Medical Assistance Programme, deserving students suffering from serious illnesses and unable to afford treatment are being supported, adding that the financial assistance ceiling has been increased from one million rupees to 1.5 million rupees per patient.
