Epstein Investigation Seeks Mandelson Interview Amid UK Diplomatic Fallout
Former Peter Mandelson, the United Kingdom’s former ambassador to Washington, has been asked to cooperate with a United States Congress investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Lawmakers are requesting that Mandelson submit to an interview and answer questions as part of a probe into Epstein’s criminal operations.
A letter sent by Democratic Representatives Robert Garcia and Suhas Subramanyam, both members of the House Oversight Committee, stated that Mandelson “possessed extensive social and business ties” to Epstein and holds critical information regarding co-conspirators and enablers.
“Numerous pieces of evidence have come to light demonstrating your close ties to Jeffrey Epstein over multiple years,” the letter said. While the committee cannot compel Mandelson to testify, it is seeking his cooperation and requested a response by February 27, 2026.
Mandelson, who served as UK ambassador from February 2025 until his removal in September 2025, resigned from the Labour Party following intensified scrutiny of his links to Epstein. His appointment had been defended by Prime Minister Keir Starmer but sparked criticism, leading to multiple resignations in the Prime Minister’s office, including cabinet secretary Chris Wormald, chief of staff Morgan McSweeney, and communications director Tim Allan.
Mandelson has denied any criminal wrongdoing in relation to his relationship with Epstein.
