High Commissioner Meets Rotary International and WHO Delegation
Pakistan’s High Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Faisal received a delegation comprising representatives from Rotary International and the World Health Organization to discuss global and regional efforts aimed at eradicating polio.
Pakistan Praised for Progress Toward Global Polio Eradication
The delegation was led by Francesco Arezzo, President of Rotary International, and included Dr. Jamal Ahmad of the World Health Organization. During the meeting, the visiting delegation briefed the High Commissioner on the progress and ongoing initiatives under the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, a global campaign dedicated to eliminating the disease worldwide.

Members of the delegation highlighted the collaborative efforts of international organizations, governments, and health partners working together to end polio. They commended the Government of Pakistan for its significant progress in reducing the incidence of the disease and advancing national vaccination campaigns.
According to the delegation, Pakistan has achieved notable success in alleviating polio through sustained public health measures, including immunization drives and strengthened disease surveillance systems. These efforts have contributed to a decline in reported cases and have reinforced the country’s role in the global fight against the virus.
Global Partners Highlight Ongoing Efforts Against Polio Transmission
The visiting representatives also discussed the remaining challenges that continue to affect polio eradication efforts, particularly in areas near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. They noted that while significant progress has been made, a small number of residual cases persist in regions where cross-border movement and logistical challenges can complicate vaccination efforts.

The delegation emphasized that international cooperation and coordinated public health strategies remain essential to addressing these remaining cases. They highlighted their ongoing work in collaboration with local authorities and health organizations to ensure that vaccination programs reach vulnerable communities in border areas.
During the meeting, the High Commissioner expressed appreciation for Rotary International’s longstanding commitment to the global campaign against polio. He acknowledged the organization’s continued efforts and partnerships aimed at eliminating the disease and supporting public health initiatives around the world.
