ICC Faces Rising Concerns as Scheduling Disputes Escalate in T20 World Cup
COLOMBO : The ongoing disputes surrounding the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, show no signs of abating. Initial debates erupted over placing India and Pakistan in the same group, followed by Bangladesh’s refusal to play its matches in India.
Amid these tensions, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has expressed growing concern about the tournament’s smooth conduct. In discussions with the ICC, the Bangladesh Cricket Board proposed swapping groups with Cricket Ireland to allow Bangladesh’s matches to be rescheduled with minimal logistical changes.
However, Cricket Ireland rejected the proposal outright, confirming that its team will play all group-stage matches in Colombo as originally scheduled. An official from Cricket Ireland told ‘CricBuzz’ that the ICC assured them their schedule would remain unchanged. The refusal dealt a direct setback to Bangladesh’s plans, as its board continues to request that its team’s matches be relocated from India to Sri Lanka.
