Information Ministry Receives Rs1.47 Billion Additional Funding

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet, chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, approved several key financial decisions, including billions of rupees in technical supplementary grants for multiple sectors. The ECC approved a technical supplementary grant of Rs1.47 billion for the Ministry of Information. The funds are intended to support the ministry’s operational and financial requirements.

Gas Supply Schemes for Rural Areas Get Rs3 Billion

The approvals were made during an ECC meeting focused on addressing financial requirements of various government departments and advancing reform initiatives. Among the major decisions, the ECC approved a technical supplementary grant of Rs1.47 billion for the Ministry of Information. The funds are intended to support the ministry’s operational and financial requirements.

The committee also approved Rs3 billion for gas supply schemes aimed at extending natural gas access to rural areas. The allocation is intended to support infrastructure development and improve energy availability in villages and remote communities.

In another decision, the ECC approved a grant of Rs20 million for the payment of outstanding dues to teachers. The allocation is aimed at settling pending financial obligations related to educators.

ECC Approves Billions in Technical Supplementary Grants

The committee further approved Rs3.63 billion for operations associated with the Monsoon 2025 season as well as for assistance related to overseas support efforts. The funding is intended to facilitate preparedness and operational requirements connected to seasonal monsoon activities and related assistance measures.

A significant decision taken during the meeting was the approval of a reform package for Pakistan’s power sector. The package is designed to reduce electricity production costs and improve the overall efficiency of the energy system.

The ECC noted that the power sector reforms are intended to help reduce pressure created by circular debt in the energy sector. Addressing circular debt remains a key priority for the government as part of broader efforts to stabilize the power sector and improve financial sustainability.

The committee also approved Rs1.3 billion for schemes under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Program. These funds will support development projects aligned with national commitments related to the SDGs.

Power Sector Reforms Approved to Reduce Production Costs

In addition, the ECC approved funding for Pakistan’s membership in the Global Energy Forum. The allocation will enable Pakistan to maintain participation in the international platform focused on global energy cooperation and policy dialogue.

Another important decision taken during the meeting related to a higher education project. The ECC approved an exemption from relending conditions for additional funding amounting to $4 million for the project. The decision is expected to facilitate the implementation of the higher education initiative by easing financial terms associated with the additional funds.

Officials said the decisions taken during the meeting reflect the government’s efforts to address sectoral funding needs, improve service delivery, and implement structural reforms in key areas such as energy, development, and education.

Teachers’ Outstanding Dues Cleared Through ECC Grant Approval

The approval of supplementary grants for different ministries and sectors aims to ensure continuity of government operations and support development initiatives. At the same time, reforms in the power sector are intended to address long-standing financial challenges and improve efficiency in electricity generation and distribution.

The ECC meeting concluded with approvals that support a range of policy priorities, including rural energy access, development programs, education initiatives, and reforms aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s energy sector.
