Interior Ministers of Pakistan and Somalia Hold Talks on Policing, Border Management

ISLAMABAD : Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Friday held talks with a high-level Somali delegation led by Somalia’s Interior Minister Ali Yusuf, focusing on expanding bilateral cooperation in security, governance, and capacity-building between Pakistan and Somalia.

Welcoming his counterpart at the Ministry of Interior, Naqvi said Pakistan valued its relationship with Somalia and was keen to deepen institutional and operational collaboration across multiple sectors. The meeting reviewed the state of bilateral relations and explored new avenues for cooperation, particularly in internal security and counterterrorism.

Both sides agreed to strengthen joint efforts in training, border management, and disaster response, while adopting a coordinated strategy to counter terrorism and extremism. The two ministers also committed to closer cooperation in policing, internal security frameworks, and intelligence and security coordination, underlining the importance of sustained engagement to advance shared strategic interests.

Ali Yusuf expressed Somalia’s desire to benefit from Pakistan’s experience in governance and security management, describing Minister Naqvi’s initiatives for Islamabad’s infrastructure development as “commendable.” He said Somalia was keen to learn from Pakistan’s institutional models and security reforms.

Naqvi assured the Somali minister of Pakistan’s full support in the areas of policing and counterterrorism, and pledged cooperation across a broad range of sectors. He also announced visa facilitation for Somali citizens traveling to Pakistan for medical treatment and educational purposes, calling it a step toward strengthening people-to-people ties.

Highlighting Somalia’s ongoing security challenges, Ali Yusuf said his country was confronting a difficult situation and was actively fighting terrorist groups. He expressed hope that the visit would mark a new phase in bilateral relations and help translate political goodwill into practical cooperation.

During the meeting, the Somali interior minister conveyed a special message from Somalia’s Prime Minister to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and formally invited Minister Mohsin Naqvi to visit Somalia.

The Somali delegation included Ambassador of Somalia to Pakistan Sheikh Noor Mohamed Hassan Hamza Adan, Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Osman Abdullahi, Deputy Police Chief Leiban, Police Chief Advisor Ms. Adal Abdi, Policy Advisor Ms. Asma Hagi, and other senior officials and diplomats.

From the Pakistani side, the meeting was attended by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the Interior Secretary, Additional Interior Secretary, Chief Commissioner and IG Islamabad, DG FIA, and other senior officials.
