Iran Marks 47th Anniversary of Islamic Revolution, Reaffirms Commitment to Sovereignty and Diplomacy

Islamabad / Tehran : The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran commemorated the 47th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution, highlighting the country’s political resilience, scientific progress, and continued commitment to sovereignty and diplomacy despite sustained external pressures.

In an official statement issued on the occasion, the Embassy described the 1979 Islamic Revolution as a historic transformation rooted in faith, national identity, and the Iranian people’s aspiration for independence. It stated that the revolution ended a dictatorial regime perceived as dependent on foreign powers and laid the foundation for national sovereignty, popular participation in governance, and the restoration of dignity and independence.

The statement emphasized that since its inception, the Islamic Republic has pursued policies based on independence, freedom, justice, and rejection of foreign domination. According to the Embassy, this course has continued with “resilience and continuity” despite what it termed sustained political and economic pressures over the decades.

Highlighting domestic achievements, the statement noted that over the past five decades Iran has made significant advances in scientific and technological sectors by relying on domestic capacities and skilled human capital. It pointed to progress in industrial production, expansion of non-oil exports, and efforts to strengthen fiscal foundations aimed at building a diversified and resilient economy.

Despite what it described as “unjust sanctions” and a maximum pressure campaign, the Iranian government claimed tangible improvements in economic and social sectors, including expanded healthcare coverage, enhanced educational opportunities, infrastructure development, and increased self-sufficiency in indigenous production. These measures, the statement said, have contributed to improving citizens’ quality of life.

On foreign policy, the Embassy underscored Iran’s commitment to what it called a balanced and constructive approach through active diplomacy and engagement with neighboring countries, emerging economies, and regional and international organizations. Iran views itself as a “responsible, independent, and constructive actor” at both regional and global levels, supporting dialogue, multilateralism, and cooperation to promote peace and sustainable development.

Addressing nuclear negotiations, the statement said Iran entered talks as a demonstration of goodwill and commitment to diplomacy, despite continued pressure from the United States. However, it alleged that acts of aggression by Israel, with U.S. involvement, caused significant human and economic losses during this period.

The Embassy also referred to protests that began on December 28, 2025, describing them as initially peaceful gatherings over economic concerns. It claimed that violent and extremist elements later exploited the protests, leading to armed unrest and public disorder. The Iranian government, the statement added, remains aware of its human rights obligations, including the right to peaceful assembly, and exercised “maximum restraint” while fulfilling its responsibility to maintain public order and national security.

The statement concluded by reaffirming Iran’s determination to defend its sovereignty and national security while remaining committed to diplomacy. It stressed that negotiations conducted under threats or coercion cannot produce constructive outcomes and reiterated respect for national sovereignty and mutual interests as the cornerstone of effective diplomacy.

On the occasion of the 47th anniversary, the Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of the founder of the Islamic Revolution and paid tribute to those it described as martyrs of the nation.
