Israel Demolishes UNRWA Facilities in East Jerusalem, Agency Condemns Action

Tel Aviv: Israeli authorities have demolished buildings belonging to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in East Jerusalem, a move the UN agency has described as a serious violation of international law.

According to Arab media reports, heavy machinery was used to raze the UNRWA compound under the supervision of Israeli forces. UNRWA said Israeli personnel forcibly removed security guards from the premises before the demolition was carried out.

The head of UNRWA said the action amounted to open defiance of international law, adding that the demolished buildings were being used to store humanitarian aid intended for Gaza and the West Bank.

Arab media reported that Israel has accused UNRWA of bias and imposed a ban on the agency’s operations inside Israel in 2024.

UNRWA provides humanitarian assistance to millions of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
