Jaecoo J7 Recalled in internationally Over Defect

SYDNEY : Chinese automaker Omoda & Jaecoo has issued a safety recall for 1,028 units of the 2025 Jaecoo J7 in Australia due to a manufacturing defect that could result in sudden engine shutdown.

The recall affects only the 1.6-litre turbocharged variant of the Jaecoo J7 sold in the Australian market. According to a notice filed with the Australian Department of Infrastructure, the issue stems from a defect in the vehicle’s electronic control unit (ECU) wiring harness.

The official recall statement explained that the ECU wiring harness may chafe against the engine mounting bracket because of a manufacturing flaw. Over time, this friction can damage the wiring insulation and internal components.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) wiring harness may chafe against the engine mounting bracket and become damaged,” the notice stated.

If the wiring becomes compromised, it could lead to a sudden loss of motive power or an unexpected engine shutdown while the vehicle is in motion. The company warned that such a scenario could increase the risk of a crash, potentially resulting in injury or death to vehicle occupants or other road users.

Automotive safety experts note that engine shutdown incidents, particularly at high speeds or in heavy traffic conditions, pose serious hazards. A loss of power may reduce steering assistance or limit a driver’s ability to maneuver safely, depending on the circumstances.

The recall applies exclusively to the specified batch of 1,028 vehicles sold in Australia and does not currently include other engine variants or markets. Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted directly by Jaecoo in writing.

The company has confirmed that inspections and necessary repairs will be carried out free of charge at authorized local dealerships. The corrective action is expected to involve inspecting the wiring harness and implementing protective measures or replacements where required to prevent further contact with the engine mounting bracket.

Vehicle owners are advised to respond promptly once contacted to minimize potential safety risks. Drivers experiencing warning lights, irregular engine performance, or unexpected shutdowns are encouraged to seek immediate service attention.
