Minister for Economic Affairs Meets World Bank Vice President to Discuss Strategic Partnership

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Minister for Economic Affairs, Ahad Khan Cheema, met with Osman Dewan, Regional Vice President of the World Bank, to reaffirm the commitment to further strengthen bilateral strategic cooperation across key areas of mutual interest.

During the meeting, both sides discussed economic growth and good governance under the World Bank’s Country Partnership Framework for 2026–2035, exploring potential collaboration in critical sectors including energy, food security, agriculture, infrastructure development, and transport.

Minister Cheema briefed the World Bank on the successful implementation of broader economic reforms in Pakistan and emphasized the need to improve coordination and strengthen monitoring mechanisms to make the Bank’s existing portfolio more effective. He stressed that collaboration with the World Bank should focus on achieving tangible and measurable results.

Osman Dewan praised Minister Cheema’s leadership in implementing the partnership framework with Pakistan and reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s development agenda and reform programs aimed at sustainable economic growth. He also noted that the upcoming visit of World Bank Group President Ajay Banga to Pakistan will provide a key opportunity to further consolidate the strategic partnership.

Both sides acknowledged the long-standing relations between Pakistan and the World Bank and reiterated their commitment to continuing results-oriented collaboration to deliver meaningful social and economic benefits for the people of Pakistan.
