Moscow Signals Contingency Plans for Bushehr Nuclear Facility

Moscow : Alexei Likhachyov, head of Russia’s state nuclear corporation, said Russia is prepared to evacuate its personnel from Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant if the situation requires.

According to Russian state media, Likhachyov stated, “We are closely monitoring the situation and are ready, in coordination with the Foreign and Defense Ministries, to take evacuation measures if necessary.”

He recalled that last June, U.S. attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities did not target the Bushehr plant.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously highlighted that hundreds of Russian experts work at Bushehr.

Likhachyov warned that any attack on the facility could have catastrophic consequences comparable to the 1986 Chernobyl disaster in Ukraine.
