The Hague : Participants of the Winter Course of the Hague Academy of International Law visited the Pakistan Embassy in The Hague, where they were received by Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, H.E. Syed Haider Shah, as part of the Embassy’s public diplomacy and academic engagement initiatives.

The delegation, comprising participants of diverse nationalities currently undergoing advanced training in international law, was briefed on Pakistan’s foreign policy, the country’s perspective on international law, bilateral relations between Pakistan and the Netherlands, and Pakistan’s engagement with major Hague-based international institutions.

The briefing included Pakistan’s interaction with organizations such as the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), and the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH), among others.

Following the session, an interactive exchange of views took place on a range of international and legal issues. The participants, many of whom are legal practitioners, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage with the Pakistan Embassy, noting that the visit contributed to a deeper understanding of Pakistan’s perspectives on global affairs and international law.

In a separate engagement, Ambassador Syed Haider Shah met Mr. Thomas Renard, Director of the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT), at the organization’s headquarters in The Hague. The two sides discussed issues of mutual interest and exchanged views on promoting academic cooperation in counterterrorism-related fields between Pakistan and the Netherlands.

The meeting formed part of the Embassy’s broader initiative to maintain close institutional links with leading think tanks and research organizations in the Netherlands, reinforcing Pakistan’s commitment to sustained policy dialogue, academic cooperation, and intellectual engagement.
