Pakistan and Australia to Strengthen Cooperation in Mining and Gemstones Sectors

Islamabad : Pakistan and Australia have agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the mining and gemstones sectors.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and Australian High Commissioner Timothy Kane in Islamabad.

High Commissioner Kane noted that Australian companies are already participating in the Reko Diq project, with additional firms expressing interest in joining. He said the Australian High Commission is facilitating participation of Australian companies in the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum and highlighted opportunities for technical assistance and knowledge sharing in the gemstones sector.

Welcoming the growing interest of Australian companies in Pakistan’s mining sector, Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik proposed the establishment of an intergovernmental agreement to further enhance collaboration in mining and related industries.
