Pakistan and Azerbaijan Step Up Cooperation on Investment and Regional Security

Islamabad : Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on Friday received the Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Special Assignments, H.E. Mr. Khalaf Khalafov, at the Prime Minister House, reaffirming the deep-rooted fraternal ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan and their shared commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation.

Welcoming the Azerbaijani envoy, the Prime Minister underscored Pakistan’s resolve to further strengthen relations with Azerbaijan across all areas of mutual interest. He conveyed warm greetings to President Ilham Aliyev and praised his statesmanship and visionary leadership, noting that it had significantly elevated Azerbaijan’s standing on the global stage.

Recalling his recent engagements with President Aliyev, including their meeting at the Victory Parade in Baku last November, the Prime Minister highlighted the positive momentum in bilateral relations. He noted that both sides were close to finalizing an agreement for a USD 2 billion Azerbaijani investment in Pakistan and renewed his invitation for President Aliyev to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at his earliest convenience.

The meeting also featured discussions on regional developments, with the Prime Minister stressing the importance of sustained and close coordination between Pakistan and Azerbaijan to advance their shared objective of promoting regional peace and security.

Conveying President Aliyev’s warm greetings, Mr. Khalaf Khalafov commended Prime Minister Sharif’s leadership and vision, crediting them for Pakistan’s recent achievements in economic recovery, security consolidation, and diplomatic outreach. He expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s steadfast support for Azerbaijan during the Second Karabakh War and reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s longstanding principled position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

During the meeting, the Azerbaijani representative also handed over a letter from President Ilham Aliyev to the Prime Minister, acknowledging his message of appreciation for Azerbaijan’s support in the establishment of the Asaan Khidmat Markaz in Islamabad, which was inaugurated earlier this month.
