Pakistan Confirms Sufficient Petroleum Supplies to Meet Domestic Requirements

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting in Islamabad on March 6, 2026, to review the country’s petroleum supply situation amid evolving regional developments. The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s Office, focused on ensuring adequate fuel availability, preventing hoarding, and strengthening coordination between federal and provincial authorities regarding petroleum products.

Government Assures Adequate Petroleum Reserves for National Needs

During the meeting, the Ministry of Petroleum delivered a detailed briefing on the status of petroleum reserves in the country. Officials informed the participants that sufficient stocks of petroleum products are currently available to meet the country’s requirements. The briefing was presented in the context of changing regional conditions and aimed at assessing preparedness to maintain uninterrupted supply across the country.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the need for strict enforcement measures against individuals or businesses involved in hoarding petroleum products. He directed provincial governments to take firm legal action against those attempting to create artificial shortages of fuel. The prime minister stressed that hoarding and manipulation of supply would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Real-Time Monitoring Dashboard Planned for Fuel Distribution

The prime minister specifically instructed authorities to take immediate action against petrol pumps found involved in creating artificial shortages. According to the directive, any petrol station engaged in such practices should be closed immediately. He further ordered that the licenses of such petrol pumps be revoked and legal proceedings initiated against the operators responsible for violating the law.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also directed the Federal Minister for Petroleum to visit different provinces to coordinate directly with provincial governments. The objective of these visits is to jointly develop a comprehensive strategy to ensure efficient management of petroleum products. The prime minister emphasized that the strategy should focus on conserving fuel where necessary and guaranteeing uninterrupted supply of petroleum products to the public.

PM Directs Crackdown on Fuel Hoarding Across Provinces

In addition, the prime minister instructed officials to develop a monitoring mechanism to track the movement of petroleum products across the country. He directed the creation of a digital dashboard that would allow real-time sharing of data with provincial governments. The system is intended to monitor transportation and distribution of petroleum products and help authorities respond quickly to any irregularities in supply.

Officials present at the meeting discussed measures aimed at strengthening oversight of petroleum logistics and distribution networks. The proposed dashboard is expected to improve transparency and coordination between federal institutions and provincial administrations by providing immediate access to supply and movement data.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of maintaining adequate petroleum reserves and ensuring that the supply chain functions efficiently across all regions. Authorities were instructed to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to prevent disruptions or market manipulation related to fuel supply.

Several senior government officials attended the meeting, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, and federal ministers Jam Kamal Khan, Ahsan Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Attaullah Tarar, Ali Pervaiz Malik, and Owais Khan Leghari. Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar were also present.

Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan Jameel Ahmad attended the session along with the chief secretaries of all four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Other senior government officials also participated in the meeting to review the petroleum supply situation and coordinate future planning.

The meeting concluded with directives aimed at ensuring sufficient petroleum reserves, preventing hoarding, and improving monitoring mechanisms to maintain uninterrupted fuel supply across the country.
