Pakistan President Extends Chinese New Year Greetings, Reaffirms Iron-Clad Ties

The President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan has extended heartfelt felicitations to the people, government and leadership of the People’s Republic of China on the occasion of Chinese New Year 2026, marking the beginning of the Year of the Horse.

In his message, the president said the Year of the Horse symbolises energy, progress and resilience, qualities that reflect the spirit of renewal associated with the festival and resonate with the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China.

He noted that 2026 marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, established in 1951, and said that over more than seven decades the two countries have built an All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership based on mutual respect, trust and shared purpose. He described the relationship as iron-clad and a cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy.

Referring to historical ties, the president recalled that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was the last international leader to meet Mao Zedong, a moment he said symbolised the confidence and strategic understanding guiding bilateral relations.

The president said Pakistan and China have consistently supported each other on issues of core national interest. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the One-China Policy and noted China’s principled support for Pakistan, including on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, with an emphasis on its peaceful resolution in accordance with the United Nations Charter and relevant Security Council resolutions.

Recalling his earlier tenure as president from 2008 to 2013, he said he had visited China on numerous occasions, reflecting the priority Pakistan attaches to its relationship with China and contributing to deeper mutual trust and long-term cooperation.

He said that under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, China continues to play an important role in promoting peace, development and multilateral cooperation, further strengthening Pak-China relations.

The president also highlighted China’s constructive role in regional and global affairs, including as a founding member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, saying China’s engagement has strengthened the SCO as a platform for dialogue, collective security and economic cooperation.

He said Pakistan and China share close cooperation in defence and security, contributing to regional peace and stability, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor under the Belt and Road framework, describing it as a transformative initiative for infrastructure development, industrial growth and connectivity.

The president said he had visited China twice over the past year, reaffirming mutual commitment to peace and cooperation and opening new avenues for collaboration across economic, technological and cultural domains.

Concluding his message, the president described Pakistan and China as all-weather, time-tested, iron-clad brothers and extended best wishes to the Chinese people for health, happiness and continued success, expressing hope that the Year of the Horse would bring greater achievements in trade, innovation, peace and people-to-people exchanges.
