Pakistan Regulator Warns Against Hateful and False Content on Digital Platforms

Islamabad : The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has emphasized that responsible use of social media is a shared national responsibility, calling on citizens to exercise caution and restraint while engaging on digital platforms.
In a statement, the authority advised users to refrain from sharing or promoting illegal, hateful, defamatory, or false content online. PTA warned that the spread of misleading or harmful material targeting state institutions, the judiciary, or individuals undermines public trust and disrupts social harmony.
The regulator said such practices contribute to polarization and can have serious consequences for societal stability. It added that the misuse of digital platforms not only damages individuals and institutions but also weakens the country’s broader digital ecosystem.
PTA reiterated the need for responsible online behavior to ensure a secure, constructive, and trustworthy digital environment.
