Pakistan Senate Chairman Meets Cambodian King, Pledges Stronger Bilateral Ties
Phnom Penh : Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, met His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia during an official visit, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations through parliamentary diplomacy, political engagement, and people-to-people cooperation.
Chairman Gilani was accompanied by Senators Dr. Zarqa Suharwardy Taimoor, Abid Sher Ali, Zameer Hussain Ghumro, and Advisor to the Chairman Senate and Ambassador for the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), Misbah Khar.

During the meeting, Chairman Gilani conveyed warm greetings and profound respect on behalf of the Senate of Pakistan, expressing appreciation for the King’s leadership, dedication to national unity, cultural heritage, and the welfare of the Cambodian people. He highlighted the longstanding friendly ties between Pakistan and Cambodia, rooted in mutual respect and shared interests, and commended Cambodia’s role in regional cooperation and inter-parliamentary dialogue.
Recalling his prior engagements with Cambodia, Chairman Gilani mentioned his participation in the Asia Pacific Cambodia Conference in 2019 as former Prime Minister of Pakistan, his courtesy meeting with then-Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, and his July 2023 visit as an international observer for the Cambodian general elections. He emphasized these interactions as a reflection of Pakistan’s consistent support for democratic processes and international parliamentary cooperation.
Chairman Gilani stressed the potential of parliamentary cooperation to advance trade facilitation, investment promotion, and regional connectivity. He highlighted Pakistan’s leadership in parliamentary diplomacy through the establishment of the ISC in 2025 and welcomed Cambodia’s active participation in its inaugural conference in Islamabad in November 2025.

The Chairman further noted opportunities to expand economic and trade cooperation, strengthen defence and security dialogue, enhance collaboration on climate change and sustainable development, and promote cultural and people-to-people ties, including shared Buddhist heritage linked to Pakistan’s Gandhara civilization.
Later, Chairman Gilani met Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations through parliamentary diplomacy, political dialogue, and people-to-people engagement. He expressed gratitude for Cambodia’s warm hospitality and highlighted the countries’ cordial relations, mutual cooperation in multilateral forums, and Cambodia’s support for Pakistan’s election to the United Nations Security Council for 2025–26.
Chairman Gilani also acknowledged Cambodia’s role in Pakistan’s engagement with ASEAN, including its Sectoral Dialogue Partner status and participation in the ASEAN Regional Forum. He underscored the importance of Parliamentary Friendship Groups, committee-level exchanges, and capacity-building initiatives, while welcoming Cambodia’s continued involvement in the ISC framework.
The meetings concluded with a mutual commitment to deepen cooperation in trade, defence, climate resilience, and cultural exchanges, reinforcing Pakistan’s dedication to peace, regional stability, and inclusive development.
