Preparations Underway for Launch of New Currency Notes in Pakistan

Significant progress has been made in Pakistan regarding the introduction of new currency notes. While all technical and administrative arrangements for printing have been completed, the process has not yet begun due to pending final approval of the designs.

According to officials, the new currency will feature advanced security measures aimed at preventing counterfeiting and bringing the notes up to international standards. The Security Printing Corporation (SPC) has confirmed that the required machinery is ready, and printing can commence immediately once the designs are approved. Authorities estimate that printing the new currency will take at least two months.

Aamir Shams, Senior Manager Printing at SPC, stated that initial consultations regarding the printing of the new notes have already taken place between the State Bank of Pakistan and the Security Printing Corporation. However, it has not yet been decided whether the new notes will be issued in phases or all denominations will be introduced simultaneously. The matter is currently under review at the State Bank, and a formal timeline for printing is expected later this year.

Sources revealed that the State Bank has shortlisted various design drafts and sent them to the government. However, the final printing order will not be issued until formal approval is obtained from the federal cabinet.

If cabinet approval is granted on schedule, the new currency notes could be issued to the public in the final months of 2026. The introduction of the redesigned currency is being seen as a major development in Pakistan’s financial system, expected to enhance both the credibility of the currency and its security features.
