President Zardari Accepts Uzbek Invitation Following Historic State Visit

ISLAMABAD : President Asif Ali Zardari affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its close, brotherly ties with Uzbekistan and stressed the importance of following up on the outcomes of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s recent historic state visit to Pakistan.

President Zardari made the remarks during a meeting with Mr. Alisher Tukhtaev, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Pakistan, who handed over a letter from President Mirziyoyev at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

In his letter, the Uzbek President expressed gratitude for the warm welcome he received during his visit, and thanked Pakistan for conferring upon him the Nishan-e-Pakistan, the country’s highest civil award, as well as honorary academic titles.

President Zardari highlighted Pakistan’s readiness to expand cooperation with Uzbekistan in sectors including food and agriculture, mining, information technology, tourism, health, and banking. He also welcomed Uzbekistan’s interest in importing halal meat, fruits, and potatoes from Pakistan as a positive step toward enhancing bilateral trade.

The Uzbek President reiterated his invitation to President Zardari, which was accepted, and the Pakistani authorities were directed to coordinate with their Uzbek counterparts to finalize the visit later this year.

President Zardari also expressed gratitude for President Mirziyoyev’s message of solidarity and support following the recent terrorist attack in Islamabad, reaffirming the shared commitment of both countries to peace, stability, and development.

Additionally, Ambassador Tukhtaev informed President Zardari of Uzbekistan’s plan to develop Babar Park in Islamabad’s F-7 sector. A relevant Uzbek minister is expected to visit Islamabad next week to hold discussions with Pakistani officials regarding the project.
