PTI Warns of Health Risks as Imran Khan Diagnosed with Serious Eye Infection

Rawalpindi : Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan expressed concern over reports that jailed party founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan is suffering from a serious eye infection.

Speaking to the media, Barrister Gohar said he learned about the condition from media reports and called it “worrying,” stressing the need for unrestricted family meetings. The PTI cited “credible media reports” indicating that Khan has been diagnosed with Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) in his right eye, a blockage in the retinal vein. According to medical experts reportedly examining him in jail, the condition is extremely sensitive and, if not treated promptly, could result in permanent vision damage.

The party claimed that the Adiala jail administration was insisting that treatment be carried out inside the jail, despite a specialist’s recommendation that the procedure requires an operation theatre and specialized medical facilities. PTI stated that this approach endangered Khan’s eyesight and overall health.

The party also noted that the former premier was last granted access to his personal physician in October 2024, calling the denial of further medical access “a blatant violation of court orders and a gross breach of fundamental human rights.”

PTI demanded that Khan be allowed immediate family access and be admitted to Shaukat Khanum Hospital or any other reputable hospital of his choice to ensure proper treatment. The party warned that the government and jail administration would bear responsibility for any permanent damage to Khan’s eyesight.

Imran Khan, imprisoned since August 2023, faces multiple cases ranging from corruption to terrorism following his removal from office via a no-trust motion in April 2022.

Barrister Gohar also emphasized that Khan’s family meetings, including interactions with his spouse Bushra Bibi, should remain unhindered by politics. He recalled that Bushra Bibi last met family members on November 2, 2025, while Khan had a meeting on December 2, 2025.

On the national security front, the PTI chairman stressed that the government must remain firm against terrorism, saying, “Provincial and federal governments must protect lives and property. We do not negotiate with those targeting us.”
