Punjab CM Marium Nawaz Hails Successful Basant, Rejects PTI Strike Call
Lahore : Punjab Chief Minister Marium Nawaz said on Monday that attempts by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to create disruption failed, as the province saw zero strikes, zero shutdowns, and no traffic blockages.
Speaking at a meeting in Lahore, she praised the administration for successfully organizing the Basant festival, saying the event restored cultural vibrancy in the city. “People from across the country came to Lahore to celebrate Basant. Seeing the joy on Lahoris’ faces was heartening,” she said, adding that citizens adhered fully to the festival’s SOPs.
Addressing safety concerns, Marium Nawaz noted that although a few accidents occurred, including falls from rooftops, these were individual errors. “None of the incidents resulted in fatal neck injuries. Previously, Basant was called ‘bloody Basant’ due to such accidents,” she said. She urged property owners to make temporary adjustments, such as installing temporary barriers, to prevent accidents.
The Chief Minister also criticized PTI for calling a strike on Sunday, saying it was an attempt to harm the public. “Not a single strike occurred anywhere in Punjab. The public completely rejected the negative behavior and abusive culture promoted by the disruptive groups. People also ignored the call from wealthy individuals intended to harm the poor,” she said.
She added that the public’s response reflected their rejection of chaos and unrest, underlining that PTI’s tactics had failed.
