Russia Calls US-Israel Strikes Against Iran Aggression

Russia has denounced the recent US and Israeli strikes on Iran as an act of aggression during an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council.

UN Security Council Sees Sharp Divisions

Addressing the Council, Russia’s representative described the attacks by the United States and Israel as a betrayal, stating that aggression had been committed and that Iran had been “stabbed in the back.” The envoy rejected American allegations against Tehran as baseless and unfounded.

The Russian delegate further argued that the International Atomic Energy Agency had never concluded that Iran was developing nuclear weapons. Drawing a parallel with the Iraq war, the representative said that unfounded claims had previously been used to justify military action. He also criticized European countries for failing to condemn attacks on Iranian civilians, including those involved in negotiations.

China Calls for Immediate De-Escalation and Talks

Russia’s envoy maintained that attempts to mislead the international community over the Iran issue would not succeed, reiterating Moscow’s position that the strikes violated international norms.

During the same Security Council session, France called on Iran to fulfill its international obligations. The French representative condemned Iranian attacks on countries in the region and accused Tehran of continuing policies that contribute to regional instability. France also urged Iran to engage in negotiations regarding its ballistic missile program.

Meanwhile, China called for restraint and emphasized the need to avoid targeting civilians. The Chinese delegate urged all sides to immediately de-escalate tensions and resume dialogue to prevent further deterioration of the security situation.

The emergency meeting highlighted deep divisions within the Security Council over the escalating confrontation involving Iran, with major powers presenting sharply contrasting assessments of responsibility and the path forward.
