Russian Missile and Drone Strikes Target Ukrainian Energy Infrastructure
Russia carried out overnight drone and ballistic missile attacks on Ukraine, targeting energy infrastructure and injuring at least seven people in Kyiv, Dnipro, and Odesa, Ukrainian officials said.
“Hundreds of drones and ballistic missiles targeted energy systems, depriving people of power, heating, and water,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on X.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that two people were hurt in a “massive” attack on the capital, which struck both residential and non-residential buildings on both sides of the Dnipro River. Explosions were heard across the city, and fragments from missiles fell near residential buildings, though no fires broke out.

In southeastern Ukraine, four people—including a baby boy and a four-year-old girl were injured in missile and drone attacks on Dnipro and surrounding districts, regional governor Oleksandr Ganzha said.
In Odesa, a southern port city on the Black Sea, one person was hurt in a drone strike that damaged infrastructure and an apartment building, triggering a fire on an upper floor, said Serhiy Lysak, head of the city’s military administration. A market and supermarket in the city also suffered fire damage, and regional governor Oleh Kiper reported harm to energy infrastructure in the district.
“These strikes are a blow to peace efforts aimed at ending the war,” Sybiha said, adding that Russia must be pressured to take diplomacy seriously and de-escalate tensions.
Ukrainian officials have recently met with Russian counterparts in Abu Dhabi under US mediation, but talks have yet to resolve differences over the eastern Donetsk region. Russia has continued to focus attacks on Ukraine’s energy facilities during the winter months. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Wednesday that the US must apply greater pressure on Russia to achieve a possible end to the war by summer.
