Safe Basant Model to Be Extended to Other Cities, Says Maryam Nawaz
Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Sunday praised the people of Lahore for strictly adhering to safety standard operating procedures (SOPs during Basant celebrations, saying the citizens upheld the government’s trust by celebrating the festival responsibly.
In a statement, Maryam Nawaz said Lahore was filled with joy and that she herself was delighted to see residents observing the rules and regulations, which played a key role in ensuring a safe Basant. She noted that the concept of a festive yet secure Basant was fully embraced, adding that no reports were received regarding the use of banned kite strings or material beyond the prescribed size and paper.
The chief minister said Basant was celebrated safely on rooftops in line with SOPs, and the absence of metallic strings ensured that power transformers remained protected. She added that the “Safe Basant” model implemented in Lahore would also be extended to other cities.
Maryam Nawaz further stated that 200 Clinic on Wheels units and 21 field hospitals were deployed across different areas to ensure prompt medical assistance. She reminded the public that Sunday marked the final day of the Basant festival and urged citizens to continue exercising caution.
