Saudi Arabia Announces New Budget Support to Pay Yemeni State Salaries

RIYADH — Saudi Ambassador to Yemen and Supervisor of the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, Mohammed Al-Jaber, announced that the Kingdom has provided new financial support to the Yemeni government’s budget to help pay salaries of state employees across all sectors.

In a post on X, Al-Jaber said the support was provided under the directives of Saudi leadership and complements a package of development projects and initiatives worth SR1.9 billion, announced on Wednesday. He said the package includes the provision of petroleum derivatives needed to operate power plants, a move aimed at improving living conditions in Yemen and easing daily hardships.

Al-Jaber stressed that salaries for all military and security forces affiliated with the higher military committee linked to the Saudi-led coalition will be paid starting Sunday.

The post follows media reports suggesting that former Southern Transitional Council (STC) chief Aidaroos Al-Zubaidi, who has left Yemen, had taken advantage of military personnel by withholding salaries as a means of pressure. Al-Zubaidi is wanted by the Yemeni government on charges of high treason and corruption.

The ambassador said the measures fall within broader efforts to support the Yemeni government’s economic reform programme, which seeks to achieve financial and economic stability and strengthen the state’s capacity to meet its core obligations.
