Shehbaz Sharif to Boost Pakistan-Austria Investment, Attend UN Event
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Austria on Sunday for a two-day official visit at the invitation of Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker. During the visit, he will hold bilateral and delegation-level meetings.
According to the state news agency Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), the Prime Minister and his delegation received a warm welcome at Vienna International Airport, where a contingent of the Austrian Armed Forces presented a guard of honor.
This is the first visit by a Pakistani Prime Minister to Austria in over three decades, the last being by then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 1992.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant are accompanying the Prime Minister.
During his visit, Shehbaz Sharif and the Austrian Chancellor will co-chair a meeting of leading business figures aimed at enhancing bilateral investment. The Prime Minister will also address the “Pakistan-Austria Business Forum.”
He will attend and speak at a special United Nations event on “Sustainable Development, Global Peace, and Prosperity” and meet the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
According to a statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Office on February 15, the visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Austria.
The statement noted that Pakistan and Austria share cordial relations grounded in dialogue, cooperation, adherence to the UN Charter, multilateralism, respect for international law, and a rules-based international order.
