Starmer, Trump Discuss Middle East Crisis in Call
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer spoke with US President Donald Trump on Sunday to discuss the latest developments in the Middle East, less than a day after Trump publicly criticized the British leader over what he described as a lack of support for the US campaign against Iran.
Trump Criticism of UK Not Addressed in Statement
According to a statement issued by the British prime minister’s office, the two leaders reviewed the current situation in the region and discussed ongoing military cooperation between the United Kingdom and the United States.

“The leaders began by discussing the latest situation in the Middle East and the military cooperation between the UK and US through the use of RAF bases in support of the collective self-defense of partners in the region,” a spokeswoman for Starmer’s office said.
The statement emphasized coordination between the two allies through the use of Royal Air Force facilities, which are supporting collective defensive efforts alongside regional partners during the current security crisis.

However, the official readout from the British government did not address Trump’s recent public remarks criticizing the United Kingdom’s role in the conflict.

Earlier, Trump posted a message on his social media platform, Truth Social, responding to reports that Britain might deploy an aircraft carrier to the region. In the post, he questioned the timing of such support.

The comment was widely interpreted as a criticism of the British government’s response to the ongoing conflict involving Iran and its regional implications.

Despite the earlier criticism, the conversation between the two leaders focused on the broader strategic situation in the Middle East and the coordination of allied military efforts.
During the call, Starmer also expressed sympathy to the United States following the deaths of six American service members in the region.

“The Prime Minister also shared his heartfelt condolences with President Trump and the American people following the deaths of six US soldiers,” the spokeswoman said in the statement.
The deaths occurred amid escalating hostilities in the Middle East as tensions continue to rise following military actions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

The brief statement from Starmer’s office did not provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the American soldiers or the broader military developments discussed during the call.
It also did not elaborate on whether Britain would proceed with plans to deploy an aircraft carrier to the region. Officials indicated that both leaders intend to remain in contact as the situation continues to evolve.

“They looked forward to speaking again soon,” the statement concluded.
The conversation reflects ongoing communication between London and Washington as allies coordinate their responses to the rapidly changing security situation across the Middle East.
