Syrian Foreign Minister Meets US Envoy on Sidelines of Riyadh Talks

Istanbul : Syria’s Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani met with US envoy Tom Barrack in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Monday, according to a statement from the Syrian Foreign Ministry.

The ministry said the meeting took place on the sidelines of a gathering of political directors of the US-led international coalition against the ISIS (Daesh) terror group. The information was shared on the US social media platform X.

No details were disclosed regarding the substance of the talks.

A day earlier, al-Shaibani arrived in Riyadh along with Syria’s intelligence chief, Hussein al-Salama, to participate in the coalition meeting.

Syria formally joined the anti-ISIS coalition in November last year. The coalition, established in 2014, has conducted military operations against ISIS in Syria and Iraq, although Damascus had not previously been a member.

Since the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in late 2024, the new Syrian administration has been working to strengthen security conditions across the country.
