Trump Says He Will Play Indirect Role in US–Iran Nuclear Talks
US President Donald Trump has said he will be indirectly involved in key negotiations between the United States and Iran concerning Iran’s nuclear program.
Speaking to journalists aboard Air Force One, President Trump said the talks would be highly important and that he would not take part directly but would instead play an indirect role.
The US president said Iran had previously adopted a hardline position during negotiations. He added that following US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities last year, Tehran had realized the consequences of its stance.
Donald Trump said Iran now appeared serious about negotiations and could be interested in reaching an agreement.
The president also said he was not involved in the dispute between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, but added that he could help resolve it.
The United States and Iran are expected to hold important talks on Iran’s nuclear program in Geneva.
