Trump, Xi Hold Phone Call on Trade, Taiwan, and Global Conflicts

US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a telephone conversation, during which they discussed a range of bilateral and global issues.

In a statement issued after the call, President Trump described the conversation with his Chinese counterpart as excellent. He said the discussions covered trade, military affairs, Taiwan, the Russia–Ukraine conflict, and the current situation involving Iran.

President Trump said the talks also included China’s potential purchases from the United States, including oil, gas, additional agricultural products, and aircraft engines, along with other related matters.

According to Chinese media, President Xi emphasized the importance of the Taiwan issue in US–China relations during the conversation. He urged the United States to exercise extreme caution regarding arms agreements with Taiwan.

Separately, Chinese President Xi Jinping also held a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to the Kremlin, President Xi and President Putin exchanged views on Iran, Ukraine, and other key international issues. The statement added that President Putin has accepted an invitation to visit China.
