UK Considers Response After Russian Expulsion of Diplomat

London / Moscow: The United Kingdom said it is “carefully considering” its options after Russia expelled a British diplomat on Thursday, accusing the envoy of having ties to intelligence services.

A Foreign Office spokesperson condemned the expulsion as “malicious and baseless,” noting that targeting British diplomats “undermines the basic conditions required for diplomatic missions to operate.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry summoned Danae Dholakia, deputy head of the British mission in Moscow, to formally protest the alleged intelligence affiliation of the embassy staff member.

The incident follows a pattern of tit-for-tat diplomatic expulsions: in March 2025, the UK expelled a Russian diplomat in response to Moscow’s November 2024 expulsion of a British envoy.
