UK Minister Slams Trump’s NATO Comments on Afghanistan as “Deeply Disappointing”

LONDON: A British minister described U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks about NATO troops in Afghanistan as “deeply disappointing,” highlighting the sacrifices of European soldiers in American-led operations.

Trump, in a international media interview on Thursday, criticized NATO, claiming the United States had “never needed” the alliance and that its allies had stayed “a little off the front lines” in Afghanistan.

Responding to the comments, junior minister Stephen Kinnock told Sky News that “many, many British soldiers and many soldiers from other European NATO allies gave their lives in support of American-led missions in places like Afghanistan and Iraq.”

Kinnock’s statement emphasized the significant contributions and sacrifices of NATO members in global military operations, countering Trump’s portrayal of allied involvement.
