Uncertainty Grows Over Pakistan-India T20 World Cup Group Clash

Islamabad : The International Cricket Council (ICC) has been left concerned following Pakistan’s decision not to play against India in the group matches of the ICC T20 World Cup, prompting the global cricket body to explore ways to engage Pakistan and defuse the situation.

Pakistan’s stance has unsettled the ICC, with reports indicating that the governing body is now seeking backchannel options to persuade Pakistan to reconsider its position. According to Indian media, the ICC plans to initiate discreet discussions with Pakistan on the matter.

As part of these efforts, ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khwaja has reportedly been tasked with leading the backchannel engagement. Imran Khwaja, who represents the Singapore Cricket Association, is expected to hold discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding Pakistan’s participation in the T20 World Cup fixture against India.

Indian media reports suggest that Imran Khwaja has been asked to play the role of a peacemaker in the current situation, with the specific objective of convincing the PCB to agree to the match.

It may be recalled that the Government of Pakistan announced on Sunday, February 15, its decision not to play against India in the T20 World Cup. Indian media further reported that the PCB has not yet completed the formal process of officially conveying Pakistan’s decision to the ICC through its institutional platform.
