UNESCO Chief Visits Pakistan on First Bilateral Trip Since Election

Islamabad: Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Dr. Khaled El-Enany, is in Islamabad on an official visit to Pakistan aimed at strengthening cooperation across UNESCO’s areas of mandate.

During the visit, Dr. El-Enany is scheduled to call on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and hold meetings with senior government officials to discuss strategic collaboration between Pakistan and UNESCO in education, science, culture, and heritage preservation.

This marks Dr. El-Enany’s first bilateral visit to any country since his election as Director General of UNESCO in November last year.

As part of his engagements, the UNESCO chief visited the Taxila World Heritage Site, where he was briefed on the rich historical legacy of the ancient city. He also toured key archaeological locations, including the Bir Mound and Sirkap sites.

Dr. El-Enany emphasized the importance of South–South cooperation and academic collaboration, particularly in the fields of archaeology and heritage preservation.
