US Court Asked to Block Trump Administration’s Immigrant Visa Suspension

The Trump administration’s decision to suspend immigrant visa processing for Pakistan and 74 other countries has been formally challenged in a United States court.

A coalition of civil rights organizations has filed a lawsuit against the US State Department in a New York court, arguing that the policy undermines decades-old foundations of American immigration law.

The petitioners contend that the suspension represents a serious disruption to established immigration procedures and violates long-standing legal norms. They have urged the court to issue an injunction to immediately block the Trump administration’s visa policy.

According to the lawsuit, the decision to halt immigrant visa processing came into effect on January 21.

Countries affected by the suspension include Pakistan, Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bhutan, Bosnia, along with several others.
