US Moderates Fresh Trilateral Talks With Ukraine and Russia in Switzerland
GENEVA: At the direction of US President Donald Trump, the United States on Tuesday moderated a third round of trilateral discussions involving Ukraine and Russia, as diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict continued.
The meetings were hosted by the Swiss Confederation, which provided a neutral venue for the talks, underscoring Switzerland’s long-standing role in facilitating international diplomacy.
According to the US side, the latest discussions focused on advancing dialogue between the two warring parties and exploring pathways toward reducing hostilities. Officials described the talks as constructive, noting that bringing representatives from both sides together marked incremental but meaningful progress.
The United States credited President Trump’s direct engagement and leadership for enabling continued communication between Moscow and Kyiv, emphasizing Washington’s stated objective of ending the fighting and preventing further loss of life.
Both Ukraine and Russia agreed to brief their respective leaderships on the outcome of the discussions and committed to continuing diplomatic engagement with the aim of reaching a broader agreement. No formal deal was announced following the meetings, and further talks are expected as negotiations proceed.
