Violence Escalates in Gaza as Ceasefire Talks Near Critical Point

Central Gaza Family Wiped Out in Deir al-Balah Bombing
At least 10 Palestinians died when Israeli forces bombed a home in Deir al-Balah, located in central Gaza. Among the victims was an entire displaced family who had been renting the property to escape violence elsewhere.
Kifaya Shaqoura, who lost multiple family members in the strike, described the devastating moment she learned of their deaths: “We were sleeping, and all of a sudden we received calls saying that the family had been martyred. They were renting Shahin’s house. My uncles had rented it. We started reading the news, one report after another, with all of the names coming in order. We were shocked by the news. Among them were my uncle, his wife, my uncle and his son, and his daughter, who was displaced with her children.”
Death Toll Continues to Climb After 15 Months of War
Gaza’s Health Ministry reports that Tuesday’s attacks pushed the official death toll from Israel’s 15-month military campaign past 46,700, with more than 110,000 people injured. However, a recent study published in The Lancet medical journal suggests the actual number of deaths may be 40 percent higher than official figures indicate.
Attacks Intensify Despite Progress in Ceasefire Negotiations
The surge in violence comes at a particularly tense moment, as international mediators working toward a ceasefire agreement say negotiations have reached their “closest point” to a potential breakthrough. The timing of Tuesday’s escalation has raised questions about the prospects for an imminent pause in hostilities.
