World Bank’s $20bn Financing Plan for Pakistan by 2035 Moves Forward
Islamabad: World Bank President Ajay Banga has arrived in Pakistan on an important official visit aimed at strengthening engagement on economic reforms and development priorities.
According to sources, Ajay Banga will remain in Pakistan until February 4, during which he is scheduled to hold meetings with senior government officials.
The sources said discussions during the visit are expected to focus on Pakistan’s ongoing economic reforms as well as the water dispute with India.
Ajay Banga is expected to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and senior officials from the energy and economic affairs ministries.
Sources added that the World Bank president will be briefed on Pakistan’s economic reform agenda and priorities for development projects.
Progress is also expected on the implementation of Pakistan’s 10-year Country Partnership Framework with the World Bank. Under this framework, the World Bank is set to provide Pakistan with $20 billion in financing by 2035.
