Zelenskyy Criticizes Moscow’s Attacks Ahead of Trilateral Talks

Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the work of Ukraine’s negotiating team, which left for a trilateral meeting with representatives of the United States and Russia, will be “adjusted” following a large-scale Russian attack on Ukrainian cities.

Commenting on the overnight strikes on February 3, Zelenskyy said the attacks highlight Moscow’s disregard for peace talks and its continued intent to destroy Ukraine.

“Every such Russian strike confirms that nothing has changed in Moscow’s attitude: they continue to bet on war and the destruction of Ukraine and do not take diplomacy seriously. The work of our negotiating team will be adjusted accordingly,” Zelenskyy said.

The president added that he had instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the entire diplomatic corps to inform international partners about the consequences of the attack, and directed the Ukrainian government to request additional energy aid packages. Zelenskyy also said he would discuss the issue with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, who arrived in Kyiv on February 3.

The strikes coincided with statements made on January 29 by US President Donald Trump, who said Russian President Vladimir Putin had agreed not to strike Kyiv and other cities for a week, without specifying when the period would begin. The attacks also came on the eve of planned trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States.

On February 2, Zelenskyy said he had set tasks for the Ukrainian negotiating team ahead of the talks. The delegation is expected to hold a separate bilateral meeting with the American side to discuss post-war security guarantees.
