WhatsApp Rolls Out New Group Chat Features to Improve Organization and Communication

As the new year begins, WhatsApp is introducing a series of updates designed to make group chats more organized, expressive, and easier to manage. Whether users are planning celebrations, coordinating family schedules, or running hobby groups, the new tools aim to improve how people stay connected across devices and platforms.

Member Tags Help Define Roles in Groups

WhatsApp is rolling out a new member tag feature that allows users to describe their role within a specific group chat.

Users can assign themselves a custom tag that is visible only within that group. For example, someone might appear as “Anna’s Dad” in a family group or “Goalkeeper” in a soccer chat. The tags are intended to add context and reduce confusion, especially in large or active groups. The feature is being introduced gradually to users worldwide.

Turn Text Into Stickers for More Expressive Messages

The messaging app is also adding a new way to create custom stickers directly from text.

Users can type a word or short phrase into the Sticker Search option and instantly turn it into a sticker. These custom stickers can be saved straight to a personal sticker pack without needing to send them in a chat first, making them quicker and easier to reuse.

Set Event Reminders Directly in Group Chats

Planning group activities is becoming simpler with the addition of event reminders.

When creating and sharing an event in a group chat, users can now set early reminders for participants. This helps ensure everyone remembers key details, whether it’s heading out on time for a party or joining a scheduled video or voice call.

Part of WhatsApp’s Expanding Group Tools

These updates build on WhatsApp’s existing group features, which already include sharing files up to 2GB, sending HD photos and videos, screen sharing, and voice chats.

With role-based member tags, creative text-to-sticker tools, and smarter event reminders, WhatsApp continues to refine how people interact in group chats. The new features focus on clarity, expression, and coordination, making it easier for users to stay connected in the year ahead.
