Punjab to Become First Province to Launch Satellite Internet in Pakistan

NAEEM MEHBOOB:

Punjab is set to become the first province in Pakistan to introduce satellite internet, with plans to provide high-speed broadband to remote areas within the next six months, officials said.

Senior Advisor to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Senator Anusha Rahman, confirmed that the provincial government has initiated steps to bring satellite broadband services to the people of Punjab. In collaboration with SUPARCO and NTC, two demonstration stations will be established in northern and southern Punjab over the next two weeks.

Senator Anusha Rahman said the move is part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision to ensure access to the fastest broadband for all citizens. “Punjab is taking the lead ahead of the other provinces to utilize Pakistan’s advanced satellite technology,” she stated.

The project aims to deliver satellite broadband to far-flung areas, ensuring residents benefit from modern internet services. SUPARCO and NTC have presented their recommendations to the provincial administration and will play a key role in implementing the initiative.

Officials emphasized that the launch of satellite internet in Punjab will set a benchmark for nationwide rollout, making high-speed connectivity accessible even in remote locations over the next six months.
