Denmark Warns U.S.: Danish Troops Will Strike First if Greenland Attacked
Denmark’s Defense Minister has issued a stern warning to the United States, saying Danish forces in Greenland will respond immediately to any attack, with questions coming later. The policy, in place since 1952, is designed to protect Greenland’s security and maintain global defense balance.
Greenland, a self-governing territory of Denmark, is considered strategically vital for missile defense, attracting interest from rival powers.
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance recently told European leaders that Washington may act if Europe does not take Greenland’s security seriously.
Separately, reports indicate the U.S. is exploring financial incentives to encourage Greenlanders to consider breaking ties with Denmark, a move that has drawn strong criticism from the U.K. and other European nations.
