Hindutva-Driven India Emerging as Source of Regional Instability, Analysts Say

India, under the influence of the Hindutva ideology, is increasingly being viewed as a destabilizing force in South Asia, with experts citing the extremist and hate-driven “Doval Doctrine” as a key factor behind rising regional tensions.

Persistent friction with neighboring countries is being cited as evidence that India has become a root cause of instability in the region.

Strong criticism has followed remarks made by Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval during the “Developed India Young Leaders Dialogue 2026.” His statement calling for “revenge” has been described by critics as deeply inappropriate and alarming.

According to BBC Urdu, Ajit Doval said, “History challenges us, and every young person should have the fire of revenge within them.”

Doval further stated that revenge itself is a form of power and that India must avenge its history.

The remarks have drawn sharp condemnation from several Indian opposition leaders and members of civil society. As reported by the BBC, critics argue that such rhetoric promotes hatred and division.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti strongly condemned the statement, saying it is “extremely unfortunate” that Doval has normalized hate and sectarian violence against Muslims.

She added that calls to avenge centuries-old events are deceptive and amount to incitement of violence against minorities.

Analysts say Doval’s anger and hateful rhetoric toward minorities reflect what they describe as a troubling mindset. Experts further argue that the core of the Doval Doctrine revolves around using proxies to destabilize Pakistan and the wider region.

They also point to historical evidence indicating that several Hindu rulers themselves carried out attacks on and caused damage to temples in India, including the Somnath Temple.

Experts warn that the nexus between the RSS and the Doval Doctrine poses a serious threat not only to peace in South Asia but also to global stability.
